Dear Mr. Duterte:
We are writing
to formally request a review of the current salary of the medical frontliners
of the Philippines. Due to the continuous and uninterrupted increase of
COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, medical workers are needed more than
ever.
Currently, the average monthly income of medical practitioners working 10-12 hours are:
- Php8, 000-Php13, 500 for entry-level registered nurses;
- Php9, 757 for fully registered nurses;
- Php13, 500 for government nurses, and;
- Php18, 000 for those working in private sectors.
Although it
has substantially increased by around Php1, 500, from the Salary
Standardization Law that your administration created, it is still not enough to
cover their expenses, especially for those who have to feed a family. From
their daily fair alone, their salary is already reduced by a staggering amount.
With the increasing lack of labor in a low-paying and high-risk job, the morale
of medical practitioners is decreasing over time. Even those planning to enter
the medical field are hesitating after seeing the treatment that healthcare
workers receive.
Thus, we would
like to request an amendment for the Magna Carta for Public Health Workers
(Republic Act No. 7350), instating a salary hike for workers under this law. It
would be a good incentive for medical practitioners and for those planning to
enter this profession.
Thank you for
your time, and we hope to hear from you soon.
Respectfully,
Albert Fish
